But before I look at the 3D capabilities of the notebook, let's take a look at the technical data together, because the Predator Helios 300 is of course also a real notebook powerhouse. Let's start with the processor, an Intel Core i9-12900H works here.
The Tetradeca-Core processor offers you 14 processor cores, of which 6 are performance and 8 are efficiency cores. In terms of performance, a clock rate of up to 5 GHz is available.
For powerful graphics support, there is then the Nvidia RTX 3080 with 8 GB of graphics memory. There is then 32 GB DDR5 RAM for the system and 2 TB SSD for the user. This means that you are equipped for all games, but also for performance-hungry applications - and also future-proof for the years to come.
The notebook is also impressive in terms of sound, thanks to DTS:X Ultra we have a 360° surround sound system for films, music and games. And for connectivity, Killer WLAN is available with WiFi 6E and Killer Gigabit Ethernet. Bluetooth 5.2 is also on board.
I don't really have to go into great detail about the battery life of a gaming notebook, that goes without saying. Acer states up to 6 hours here, but if you play games, the battery life will of course drop quickly. As with all gaming notebooks, we obviously have to use the power supply when gaming to be able to access the full performance of the hardware.
Acer Predator Helios 300 Spatiallabs Edition Design
At first glance, the design of the Helios 300 is quite simple for a gaming notebook. We have a sleek aluminum lid with a small Predator logo and SpatialLabs lettering. It is also comparatively thin for the given performance.
Sure, the back with the large cooler openings already gives an idea of the performance that is in store for us, but I think it's nice if there are also gaming notebooks that don't look super crazy for gaming, for example if you also want to use them for business to watch videos to edit, etc.
When we open the notebook and start it, the gamer's heart naturally jumps to sleep, because then we're greeted by a keyboard illuminated for each key with mini LEDs, which also has really cool effects at hand. Below that we also have a generously dimensioned touchpad with integrated keys.
Let's also take a look at the connections, there we have the Kensington lock, an RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.2 Gen 1 and the audio port on the left. On the right side there is then a USB 3.2 Gen 2 with power-off charging and a normal USB 3.2 Gen 2. On the back there is the connection for the power supply, a Type-C Thunderbolt 4 port, HDMI 2.1 and a mini DisplayPort 1.4. So we definitely have all the important connections here, for me it could have been a card reader, then it would have been perfect.
SpatialLabs
Let's now come to the display, which makes the notebook something very special. The 15.6-inch IPS panel offers UHD resolution and thanks to SpatialLabs, the combination of the stereoscopic display and the eye-tracking camera, we have the opportunity to enjoy 3D content without glasses.
And now I'm going to try it! I already have Forza Horizon 5 installed for this. It is one of the games that supports 3D gaming with SpatialLabs. By the way, you don't have to set anything here. When the notebook arrives, SpatialLabs TrueGame software is already preinstalled. All you have to do is install and start your game and you are immersed in the game in three dimensions.
We can set the intensity at the top right, you only have to adjust the value with plus and minus and find the right value for your eyes, as soon as it looks good for you, you can start. And I have to say, the menu alone makes it look really surreal.
I'm looking at the display here and I'm not wearing 3D glasses and I'm just seeing a three-dimensional image. Unfortunately I can't capture that on camera for you, but believe me, it's fascinating. It's kind of like a head-up display, you're looking into the distance and it just makes the game feel more immersive.
Of course, Forza Horizon 5 is not the only game that supports SpatialLabs, there are already over 50 games from all genres that support the system, including classics like Quake, but also the current titles.
Conclusion
With the Predator Helios 300 Spatiallabs Edition, Acer offers a special version of its Predator Helios 300. This version of the notebook, enhanced by SpatialLabs technology, is of course more expensive, but it offers this very special function of viewing 3D content without glasses. And what can I say, it's just fascinating.
You sit in front of the device and suddenly you see three-dimensional content, which is a bit surreal. It's a little hard to explain, so I'm hoping that Acer will exhibit the notebook in stores to better demonstrate the effect, because you just have to see it with your own eyes🙂
Of course, such a unique notebook also costs something. With an RRP of €3,499, it's not exactly cheap, of course, but you get a very special notebook with a unique feature.
